Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice presidency and the highest ranking female official in U.S history. She is a member and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported healthcare reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a pathway for immigrants who are not legal citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
